Chowan University’s October 11th Homecoming Offers Something for Everyone!

Chowan University celebrates Homecoming 2014 with a weekend full of activities from October 9th through the 12th.

From pep rallies to golf tournaments to step shows – Hey, don’t forget the game! – Chowan University’s Homecoming 2014 has something for everyone! Beginning Thursday, October 9th with a pep rally and bonfire at 8:00 pm at the Helms Center, Homecoming Weekend is packed full of fun!

Friday morning sees the 12 noon shotgun start of the Homecoming Golf Tournament with cash prizes and contests held at Valley Pine Country Club in Lasker, NC. Contact Ellen Ordnung at 252-578-3404 or ordnue@chowan.edu for more information and to sign up your team today.

Women's Soccer begins the games for the weekend with a match against William Peace University at 4:00 at the Soccer Complex behind the Helms Center on Friday afternoon. 

Friday night is full of activities like the Blue & White Alumni Celebration held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the new Pond Football Center this year. There will be door prizes, entertainment and heavy hors d’oeuvres with special recognition for the alumni reunion classes of 1954, 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, and 2004. The Step Show in Turner Auditorium begins at 8:00 pm, and the Homecoming Dance in the Hawks Nest begins at 10:00 pm. Contact Christy Hull athullc@chowan.edu or 252-398-1227 for more information and pricing on those events.

Saturday morning of Game Day begins with the Department of History’s 20th Anniversary Celebration entitled History and Memories in the Marks Hall Lobby at 10:00 am. The Alumni and Friends Reception in the Wayland L. Jenkins Jr. Fine Arts Center begins at 10:30 am, with the Alumni and Friends Luncheon immediately following in the Chowan Room of Thomas Dining Hall at 11:00 am. Lunch will also be available in the Thomas Dining Hall for $6 for adults and $5 for children from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. The Chowan Bookstore will also have special open hours from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Men’s Soccer starts the sporting events for the Homecoming Weekend with kick-off against Piedmont College at 12 noon. Tailgating for the football game begins at 1:00 pm, but you need to contact Meredith Long at longm@chowan.edu or 252-398-6468 to reserve your spot.

Chowan’s Homecoming Game versus Bowie State University’s Bulldogs starts at 3:00 pm in Garrison Stadium. Tickets are $11 for adults, $6 for students and children 5 and under get in free.

The Homecoming Weekend 2014 games and activities don’t end there though! Sunday afternoon sees the Women’s Volleyball Team take on Bowie State University in the Helms Center at 1:00 pm. Women’s Soccer also starts at 1:00 pm taking on William Peace University on the fields behind Helms Center, and the Alpha Chi Honor Society will end the weekend with a special Induction Ceremony in Vaughan Auditorium of Marks Hall at 2:00 pm.
