About Murf:

Murf, the spirited Hawk, proudly represents Chowan University at athletic games and campus events. First introduced to the Chowan community on September 9, 2006, Murf took flight during the University Celebration football game — marking the official transition from the “Braves” to the “Hawks” in accordance with the NCAA’s rulings on collegiate nicknames.

Murf’s name was selected through a two-month online contest that received over 200 entries. Officially Knighted in November 2006, Murf has been spreading Hawk pride and entertaining the campus community ever since.
