1960s

Jerry Earl Harper, ’63 spent more than 60 years of ministry in Baptist churches in Virginia and North Carolina.

Susan “Sue” H. Darke, ’67 became the VP of Human Resources. She is a 26 year breast cancer survivor & served as a match to newly diagnosed women as they navigated through their illness. She works part-time at a non-profit, performing all administrative/human resources functions. 

1970s

Dr. Stephen R. Pickard, ’72 was Teacher of the Year for Caldwell County Schools, he served 8 years as a National Board Examiner for CAEP.

Susan F. Winters, ’73 was named Teacher of the Year and received two Certificates of Recognition for the academic achievements of Hanover Scholars, who were among her high school graduates. She has a son, a daughter, and four grandchildren.

1990s

Fred Vinson, ’91 was hired by the Detroit Pistons to join Monty Williams’ staff. Vinson, who previously assisted Williams with the New Orleans Pelicans from 2010-2015. Vinson was a former student athlete at Chowan as has earned numerous accolades. He also played professionally for the Atlanta Hawks and Seattle Supersonics. He began his coaching career with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2007 and later joined the New Orleans Hornets in 2010.

2000s

Patti P. Snead, ’03 has been selected for a solo exhibit at the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun in Tucson, Arizona.

Joshua Rivera, ’06 was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army.

Mozell J Persom, ’07 has been selected as the newest Dean of Instruction for Social and Behavioral Sciences, Business Education, and Agriculture 

Lance Jenkins, ’09 earned a MPA (Master of Public Administration) at Norwich University. Lance describes himself as an Agency Owner (Goosehead Insurance/Realtor/Broker), a Dad, a Husband, and a Sports Guy.

2010s

Leah Lambson, ’10 earned a Master of Educational Leadership Administration in 2016 from Nova Southeastern University. She is currently the Student Activities Coordinator for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. 

Porsche Moody, ’10 is Thomas Eaton Middle School’s Teacher of The Year.

Shanice M. Lawton, ’11 is releasing her new book titled “The Realm”.

Shafiq Kuttab, ’13 graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Information Systems. He is currently with PwC Netherlands, Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands. He is in Account Advisory – Deals and Capital Raising.

Robert Holland, ’14 was announced as Osbourn Park’s new head football coach.

Dr. Tyreeka Williamsy, ’15 earned a B.S. in psychology from Chowan University, an M.A. in human services counseling from Liberty University, and an M.A. in school counseling from Regent University. She also completed her Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision at North Carolina A&T State University, where she was awarded the Inaugural College of Education Equity, Access, and Advocacy Award. 

LaQuan S. Nixon, ’18 was featured in Stardom 101 Magazine based out of Virginia for a Podcast Interview on iHeartRadio to promote his videos as a comedy content creator. 

2020s

Montivas Joyner, ’20 graduated from Chowan University, obtained a MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus and is currently working on completing a PhD in Public Administration from Liberty University while working for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. 

Shakira A. Harris, ’20 currently works as a Clinician at a non-profit agency, providing outpatient therapy to families), who have limited access to or can not afford mental health support. 

Elizabeth M. Stokes, ’22 was Arlington ISD’s Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports Teacher Of The Year.

Valerie Ivey-Lyons, ’23 has won the President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award.
