Check-in Day

Spring Check-in Information

All residential students check-in on Sunday, January 7th beginning at 2:00 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. 

Commuting students will check-in on Monday, January 8th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Admissions Office on the ground floor of the McDowell Columns Building.

Classes begin Tuesday, January 9th.

You can speed up the check-in process with Express Check-In.  To qualify for Express Check-In you must complete and return the following before December 1, 2017:

Final High School Transcript with actual graduation date
Housing Preference Form approved
Medical Form completed and approved by the University
All of your Financial Aid paperwork approved
Attend Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR)
Student Health Insurance Waiver approved 
Paid your account balance or set up payment arrangements and be current on your payments with the Business Office

If you have questions regarding Check-In please call your Admissions Counselor at 1-888-4-CHOWAN (1-888-424-6926). You may also fax your information to (252) 398-1190 or email it to enroll@chowan.edu.

Failure to pay or make satisfactory arrangements with the Business Office by January 1st for the spring semester balance may result in you losing your room reservation if other students are waiting for a room. Failing to check in on Sunday, January 7th between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m.  could result in a fine and loss of your residence hall space. 

Fall Check-In Day Information

All new students must check-in on Saturday, August 18th beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m. at the Helms Center.

Here’s what you’ll do on August 18th:

  • Drive to the Helms Center (#44 on the map) and check in – it will only take a few minutes, don’t unload your car.
  • Receive your room key and additional instructions from Chowan University staff.
  • Proceed to your Residence Hall using the map provided.
  • Unload your belongings and move your belongings to your residence hall room in 20 minutes. Upperclassmen, student-athletes, and local churches will help you move in!
  • Receive additional parking instructions from Public Safety. 
  • Complete your check-in process as indicated in your packet.

Returning students must move-in on Sunday, August 19th  beginning at 2:00 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. Room keys should be picked up at the Helms Center.

Here’s what you’ll do on August 19th:

  • Drive to the Helms Center – it will only take a few minutes, don’t unload your car.
  • Receive your room key and additional instructions from Chowan University staff.
  • Proceed to your Residence Hall and unload your belongings and move your belongings to your residence hall room.
  • Complete your check-in process as indicated in your packet.
  • As a returning student, if you did not qualify for Express Check-In you must go to the Jenkins Center on Monday, August 21st beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.
