Chowan University Hosts “Saving Our Wildflowers” Exhibit 

Celebrating North Carolina’s Native Wildflowers: “Saving our Wildflowers” will be on display on the Main Floor of Whitaker Library at Chowan University from February 13, 2023, to May 10, 2023.  This event is on loan from the North Carolina Botanical Garden and is sponsored by the Friends of Whitaker Library.  This exhibit is a traveling.

Alumna Allison Gupton Serves as Guest Speaker

On Thursday, January 26, alumna Allison Gupton ‘18 served as a guest speaker for the Department of History. Speaking for the series “Living History,” she shared about her work at the Historic Hope Plantation, where she serves as Historian and Senior Docent. Gupton’s talk was titled “A Step Towards Hope.” She shared with the audience.

Honors College Student Association Gives Back

Chowan University’s Honor College Student Association (HCSA) Co-Presidents Destiny Vaughan and Rachel Van Buren presented a check for $1,000 during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house of the newly renamed Chowan University Murf’s Food Pantry on January 31. This donation came on behalf of 134 members who worked together to serve the community while raising.

Message from the Dean

Welcome to the School of Business and Design, a school which strives to build a community of talented and ethical professionals well-equipped to communicate, contribute, and excel in the global marketplace.  Students can expect a familial atmosphere with a caring faculty and staff that devote their time to helping their students before, during, and after class.  

The School is comprised of two departments: The Department of Business and the Department of Communication Arts. Students can choose from one of our majors in Business, Graphic Design, Mass Communication, or Studio Art.  In addition, students can also earn a minor in Drama and Cybersecurity. Regardless of the major, students will encounter experienced and driven faculty that will guide them on the path to achieve their academic goals.  

Business students will gain vital skills and knowledge in one of our concentrations, including Accounting, E-commerce, Information Systems, Management, and Marketing.  In Graphic Design, students focus on the creation of visuals, including elements and principles of design, typography, image editing, and web and video production.  In Studio Art, students will develop their creative ideas and artistic ability through exciting courses in drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpting.  Finally, our Mass Communication students master the skills to create written and visual media that are used to target large audiences.  

Our students receive an educational experience that extends beyond the classroom.  Students will develop relationships with faculty and peers through one of our many clubs and organizations, including Phi Beta Lambda, the Mass Communication Club, and the Graphic Design Club.  Additionally, students can apply their knowledge and gain valuable career experience through our exciting internship programs.
