Learn by Doing

English majors have regular opportunities for unique experiences. They can work as a tutor in our Writing Center, helping fellow Chowan students work on their essays. They can participate and play a leadership role in our departmental club, Poets, Inc. (which has won the Mission & Vision Cup as the best club on campus). Our majors also present at the Chowan University Student Research Conference (CUSRC) each spring and several students have also presented at the prestigious State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium.

As a major in the Department of English, you can connect your classroom knowledge with real-world experience. Our internships provide students with opportunities to gain practical experience in professional settings. The Chowan University chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, along with Poets, Incorporated offers students additional educational, service, and fellowship opportunities.
