Teacher Education at Chowan University
Chowan University’s Department of Teacher Education prepares future educators through a comprehensive program built on national and state standards. The program’s conceptual framework emphasizes three core areas—knowledge, practice, and professionalism—to ensure graduates are effective and well-prepared for today’s classrooms.
As a Teacher Education student, you’ll build a strong foundation of knowledge in both coursework and fieldwork, developing into a lifelong learner who values growth and reflection. You’ll practice a wide range of instructional and classroom management strategies, learn to integrate technology, design differentiated lessons, and use assessment data to enhance learning for all students. Just as importantly, you’ll demonstrate professionalism by respecting diverse learners, collaborating with peers and families, and engaging in opportunities for professional growth.
All education majors must meet University and departmental requirements and successfully complete state-mandated assessments, including the Foundations of Reading Test, Praxis II, and edTPA, as required for North Carolina Teaching Licensure. Chowan University’s Teacher Education programs are fully approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
