Studios & Spaces

The Department of Graphic Design is housed in Horner Hall, a facility dedicated to both print and digital media. Students have access to a fully equipped computer lab, screen-printing lab, digital print and finishing resources, and numerous creative workspaces—providing hands-on experience across the full spectrum of design and production.

Meanwhile, Green Hall is home to the Juanita Kelly Pond Gallery and the Charles & Frances Hinnant Gallery, where student and professional work is regularly exhibited.

Showcasing Your Creative Growth

At Chowan, your portfolio is more than a collection of projects—it’s a reflection of your journey as a designer. From your first year to graduation, you’ll build a body of work that highlights your creativity, technical skills, and unique design voice.

Annual Portfolio Reviews give you the opportunity to share your progress with faculty, receive valuable feedback, and refine your work as you move into advanced courses.

As a senior, you’ll complete a final portfolio and exhibition through the ART 499 capstone course. This professional showcase prepares you for graduate school, job interviews, and opportunities in the creative industry—while celebrating your achievements in front of the Chowan community.

By the time you graduate, you’ll leave Chowan with a polished, professional portfolio that demonstrates your talent, versatility, and readiness to succeed in the world of design.

“Chowan gave me real-world design experience through mock interviews, client projects, and critiques that built my skills and confidence.”
