Faculty in the Department of Biology strongly believe in experiential learning. We incorporate “learning by doing” into all of our classes in the form of classroom and laboratory activities, field trips, interacting with outside scientists and professionals, and other experiences that actively engage students inside and outside the class.
The department’s Field Ecology course epitomizes “learning by doing.” It involves an immersive field experience where students, in part, spend a week living and learning in natural areas along the North Carolina Outer Banks.
