Cheryl D. Turner Joins Chowan University as Vice President for Business Affairs
Cheryl D. Turner recently joined Chowan University as Vice President for Business Affairs, bringing more than 30 years of leadership experience in accounting, finance, and strategic business operations.
A native of Southampton County, Virginia, Cheryl was raised on her family’s farm just across the Virginia–North Carolina border, where she developed the strong work ethic and practical values that have guided her throughout her career. Today, the family farm continues to operate under the care of her father and son, reflecting a deep appreciation for family, agriculture, and community.
Cheryl graduated at the top of the College of Management at North Carolina State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minor in Agricultural Business Management. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Before joining Chowan, Cheryl spent nearly 25 years in public accounting, specializing in tax planning, auditing, and consulting. She then served for more than six years as Chief Financial Officer of Bronco Federal Credit Union, where she provided strategic financial leadership and helped guide the organization’s continued growth and success.
Cheryl is excited to begin this new chapter at Chowan University and looks forward to working alongside the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and students to support the University’s mission and strengthen its financial future.
Outside of work, Cheryl enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, relaxing at the beach, and working in her yard. She also serves as Treasurer of Barnes Methodist Church, where she is grateful for the opportunity to use her financial expertise in service to her church community.
