Chowan University Celebrates Ordinations: a Full-Circle Legacy of Campus Ministry
Chowan University joyfully celebrates the ordinations of Rev. Jason Fowler and Rev. Brayden Conboy, marking a meaningful continuation of the university’s rich tradition of nurturing faith and leadership.
On Sunday, Rev. Fowler was ordained at Woodland Baptist Church, joined in ministry by Rev. J. Brabban, pastor of Woodland Baptist, and Rev. Jill Awuni, Chowan University faculty member—collectively known to students as the “J Squad.” Their collaborative work in campus ministry, envisioned and supported by President Rosemary Thomas, has strengthened Chowan’s commitment to spiritual growth and student engagement.
Later that same day, Chowan alumnus Rev. Brayden Conboy was ordained in a separate service, celebrating the culmination of a journey that began during his time as a student. It was through Chowan’s worship gatherings and mentoring relationships that Brayden first discerned his call to ministry. After graduation, he pursued seminary and now serves as a local pastor, often returning to campus to speak at worship services—coming full circle to minister to the same community that shaped his faith.
Now officially ordained, both Rev. Fowler and Rev. Conboy embody Chowan’s mission to prepare students for lives of purpose and service. Their stories—rooted in campus ministry and sustained by the partnership between Chowan and local churches—reflect the enduring power of faith, mentorship, and calling in shaping the next generation of Christian leaders.
