Faith in Action: Chowan University Strengthens Christian Life and Community Partnerships
MURFREESBORO, N.C., October 15, 2025 — Chowan University continues to thrive as a leader in Christian higher education, celebrating a year marked by growth in ministry, student engagement, and recognition as a Top Christian University.
At the heart of Chowan’s mission is a commitment to integrating faith, learning, and service—a vision that remains vibrant across campus through worship, outreach, and scholarship opportunities rooted in Christian values.
“Faith is not just a tradition at Chowan; it’s the foundation of who we are,” said Jason Fowler, Interim Campus Minister. “From worship and service to leadership and community, our students are discovering how to live out their faith in real and meaningful ways.”
Campus Ministry remains a central part of life at Chowan, with a growing number of students participating in weekly worship services. The student-led worship team has returned in full force, leading energetic, spirit-filled gatherings that unite the campus community in both the Chowan Chapel and the outdoor chapel. The outdoor chapel’s recent facelift has created an even more welcoming space for reflection and praise.
Chowan’s Christian foundation extends beyond worship into financial and spiritual support. The Lettie Pate Whitehead Scholarship Program continues to bless women who exemplify faith and service, while the Chowan Christian Service Association (CCSA) provides opportunities for students called to ministry-related vocations. These programs equip students to serve as Christian leaders in churches, classrooms, and communities across the region.
On November 9, churches across northeastern North Carolina and southern Virginia will again celebrate Chowan Sunday, a day set aside to recognize the University’s faith-based mission and the partnership between Chowan and its supporting congregations.
“Chowan Sunday reminds us that we’re part of something greater than ourselves,” Fowler shared. “It’s a reflection of the ongoing prayers, mentorship, and encouragement that strengthen our students and our ministry.”
As Chowan looks ahead, its commitment to Christ-centered education remains steadfast—rooted in gratitude for the generations of believers, donors, and church partners who make this mission possible.
