Chowan University’s Office of Admissions hand-delivered acceptance letters to more than 20 Hertford County Early College students who applied for early admission to the University for Fall 2026.

During the visit, students were introduced to Chowan’s newest scholarship opportunity—the Spirit Scholars Program. This initiative combines a student’s merit-based award with an additional scholarship based on location, providing greater financial support for local students. “We are excited to continue finding ways to make Chowan University an affordable private college option for students across northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia,” said Taylor Furlough, Director of Admissions. “Chowan offers an exceptional environment for young people to grow and become future leaders in their communities. Furlough also spoke with students about Chowan’s innovative academic schedule, which has increased course completion rates and the University-wide GPA while providing a more flexible learning experience.

“We are in year two of our new academic model, and by all metrics, year one was a resounding success,” Furlough shared. “We’ve seen our course pass rate rise to over 92%, along with an overall increase in GPA, all while giving students a schedule that better fits their lives—it’s been a win-win all around.”
