
Hawks Secure #24 National Ranking, Top Multiple Conference Stats
MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University women’s basketball team earned a national ranking of #24 in the latest WBCA NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, released on February 25th.
The Hawks continue to make their mark in NCAA Division II, ranking among the best in multiple categories. They’re #1 in the nation for field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to just 32.3%. With a 16.4 rebound margin, they also sit atop the rankings in that category. The team ranks 3rd in both total rebounds per game (45.36) and offensive rebounds per game (18.7). Defensively, they’re #5 in scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 50.7 points per game. Chowan is also #8 in scoring margin with an 18.5-point advantage. The Hawks rank 18th in bench points per game, averaging 27.3, and they’re also featured on the leaderboards for winning percentage, steals per game, blocks per game, and free throw attempts per game.
Individually, Nyeisha Savage ranks #24 in the nation for offensive rebounds per game, grabbing 3.8 boards per game for a total of 72. She’s also listed among the nation’s top players for blocks per game. Meanwhile, junior Yasmine Brown makes her mark on the steals per game leaderboard.
The Hawks are setting the standard atop the Conference Carolinas stat leaderboard, leading in multiple categories. They sit at the top with an 18.5 scoring margin and lead the conference in opponent field goal percentage, holding teams to just 32.3%. They’re also #1 in combined team rebounds, averaging 45.4 per game, while limiting opponents to 29.0 rebounds. With an impressive 18.7 offensive rebounds per game, the Hawks lead the way in that category as well. Additionally, they rank #1 in blocked shots, averaging 3.95 per game.
On the Conference Carolinas leaderboard, Meara Carter ranks #3 for rebounds, averaging 8.4 per game, while teammate Nyeisha Savage is close behind at #4 with 8.1 per game. Savage also leads the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.8 per game. Junior Yasmine Brown sits at #10 in field goal percentage with a .438 mark, #8 in assists with 3.8 per game, and #15 in points, averaging 12.7 per game.
