
Chowan Women’s Basketball Maintains Strong Regional and National Presence
MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University women’s basketball team continues to hold strong at the 8th spot in the D2CSC Regional Women’s Basketball Poll. In addition to their ranking in the D2CSC, the Hawks are also under consideration for the NCAA regional rankings. The team has also been receiving votes in the WBCA NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll for the past three weeks.
The Hawks have made their mark on the NCAA team statistical leaderboard this season. Currently, they rank 1st in Field Goal Percentage Defense, holding opponents to just a 31.9% shooting rate. They also lead the nation in Rebound Margin, with a 16.8 margin, limiting opponents to an average of 29.2 rebounds per game. In Scoring Defense, they sit at 2nd, allowing just 49 points per game. On the offensive boards, they rank 3rd, averaging 19 offensive rebounds per game. Overall, they are 3rd in total rebounds per game, averaging 45.90 and securing 918 rebounds so far this season. The Hawks also rank 5th in Scoring Margin with a solid 20.0-point advantage and 19th in winning percentage at 85.0%. They sit at 23rd in Three-Point Percentage Defense, holding opponents to just 26.1%.
The Chowan University women’s basketball team is currently 17-3 overall and 14-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, February 22nd, for Senior Day, where they will face Southern Wesleyan, who holds an 8-18 overall record and a 4-14 mark in conference play.
