Notable alumni Steven Dean Davis has built an impressive career as an actor, singer, dancer, photographer, and drummer since 1987. A graduate of Chowan University with an Associate’s degree in Photography, Steven furthered his education with a BFA in Acting and Directing from UNC.
Steven’s versatility has allowed him to perform in various entertainment mediums. He has toured the United States with bands, cabarets, choirs, and theatrical productions. On stage, Steven co-starred in the renowned show STOMP, performing Off-Broadway in New York City, on London’s West End, and as Tour Director for global productions from 1995 to 2015. He also participated in the orchestral adaptation, The Lost and Found Orchestra, which had extended runs at the Royal Festival Hall in London and the Sydney Opera House.
In film and television, Steven has guest-starred in iconic TV shows such as Matlock, Roseanne, Mad About You, and One Tree Hill. His film credits include The Neon Bible, The Change-Up, Captive, and Vacuums. From 1996 to 2017, Steven co-starred in Disney’s Epcot ride “Universe of Energy” for Ellen’s Energy Adventure, alongside Ellen DeGeneres and Bill Nye. Additionally, Steven has been featured in commercials and on talk shows like The Jay Leno Show, The Howie Mandel Show, The Magic Johnson Hour, The Mike & Mary Show, and MTV Beach House.
Steven continues to shine as a performer for TV and film but has recently shifted his focus to recording and releasing original music. Reflecting on his time at Chowan University, Steven remarked, “Photography gave me a unique insight and perspective on the world, which has been the compass on which I have navigated all of my choices.”
