
Joyce E. Futrell – Most Notable Alumni
Notable alumni Joyce E. Futrell exemplifies the values of Chowan University through her dedication to education, community service, and student success. Joyce is currently employed as a registrar with the Hertford County School System, where she encourages students to strive for academic, social, and personal excellence, motivating them to become successful young men and women.
A shining example of service, Joyce’s community involvement is a guiding force in her life. She is an active leader at Second Baptist Creeksville Church in Murfreesboro, where she works with youth and has taught computer classes to senior citizens in the community. Additionally, she serves as a musician in several local churches, enriching her community through music and faith. Joyce has also volunteered as President of the PTSO/Parents Teachers Students Organization at C.S. Brown High School STEM in Winton, NC.
Joyce’s journey with Chowan University began as an Upward Bound student. She earned her Associate Degree in Clerical Administration in 1982 and later returned to earn her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in May 2010. Joyce also contributed to the university as an employee in the Advancement Office for several years.
As a notable alumni, Joyce E. Futrell continues to make a meaningful impact on her community and beyond. Her commitment to service, education, and leadership is a testament to the values instilled at Chowan University.
