
Alison DeWitt (Kolezynski) – Most Notable Alumni
Alison (Allie) DeWitt (Kolezynski), a notable alumni of Chowan University, is the Assistant Commissioner for Communications and Operations at the Mountain East Conference in Bridgeport, WV. The Mountain East Conference is one of 24 NCAA Division II athletic conferences, with member institutions spanning three states.
Alison graduated from Chowan University with a degree in Business Administration and later earned an MBA from Cleveland State University in 2013. During her time at Chowan, Alison, then Kolezynski, built an impressive softball career, solidifying her status as a notable alumni.
She was a four-year starter and captain of the Chowan Softball team, earning accolades such as:
• Three-time All-CIAA Selection
• Three-time CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Team honoree
• Two-time NCCSIA All-State selection
• Capital One Academic All-American
• Daktronics All-Region team member
Alison led the softball team to three consecutive CIAA Northern Division titles and the program’s first-ever CIAA Championship in 2010. She also served a three-year term on the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
In recognition of her accomplishments, Alison was named the CIAA Woman of the Year in 2012 and received the Commissioner’s Service Award in 2013. She also served as Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Community at Chowan and earned the prestigious CIAA Sports Information Director of the Year award in both 2014 and 2016.
Reflecting on her experience at Chowan, Alison stated:
“I am forever grateful to have been able to receive an education while competing as a student-athlete at a place that feels like ‘home away from home.’”
