
Brown and Savage Take Home Player of the Week Honors for the Hawks
Yasmine Brown and Nyeisha Savage of Chowan Women’s Basketball have been honored as the Conference Carolinas Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Yasmine Brown, named Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week, had a career-high 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal. She also went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and hit the game-winning 2-pointer in Chowan’s 68-66 overtime victory over Francis Marion.
Nyeisha Savage, named Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week, was a force on the boards against Francis Marion with nine total rebounds (eight defensive, one offensive), three blocks, one steal, and five points. She currently ranks 2nd in the conference for rebounds, averaging nine per game. Savage also sits atop the conference for field goal percentage and leads in blocked shots with 11 so far.
The Hawks are off to a perfect 9-0 start this season, matching their previous win streak record from the 2004-05 season. They’re aiming to break that record in their upcoming game against UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, January 15th at 5:00 PM at Bob Burke Court.
