Chowan Women’s Basketball Ranked 10th in D2CSC Poll, Looking to Extend Perfect Start
The Chowan University women’s basketball team was ranked 10th in this week’s D2CSC Women’s Basketball Regional Poll, which was announced on Wednesday.
The D2CSC (Division II Collegiate Sports Communications) is an organization that recognizes and ranks the top athletes across NCAA Division II Sports.
The Hawks are rolling with their best start to a season yet, staying undefeated at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Conference Carolinas. They’re leading the conference in both team rebounds and opponent rebounds.
Desiree Askew has been powering the Hawks this season, averaging 13.6 points per game and leading the team with 65 total rebounds. Yasmine Brown is close behind, averaging 10.4 points per game while adding 18 steals and 32 assists to her season totals.
On the defensive end, Danea Mackey is leading the charge with 22 steals. Nyeisha Savage has been a rebounding machine for the Hawks, pulling down 54 boards and blocking 8 shots this season.
The Hawks are set to face off against Francis Marion Wednesday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas showdown, aiming to extend their winning streak to 9-0, which would match the Chowan women’s basketball team’s record for the longest win streak, set during the 2004-05 season.
