CU Women’s Basketball Ranked 10th in Latest D2CSC Regional Poll
MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The CU women’s basketball team earned a spot in the top 10, securing 10th place in this week’s D2CSC Women’s Basketball Regional Poll, announced on Wednesday.
The D2CSC (Division II Collegiate Sports Communications) is an organization that recognizes and ranks the top athletes across NCAA Division II Sports.
The Hawks are off to a perfect start, boasting a 7-0 overall record and a 4-0 mark in Conference Carolinas. They currently sit atop the East Division as the early leaders of the season.
Chowan’s offense is firing on all cylinders, currently leading the conference with 77.9 points per game. On the defensive end, the Hawks have been holding opponents to just 27.8% shooting from the field. CU continues to dominate the glass, averaging 49.9 rebounds per game.
Desiree Askew has been leading the Hawks offensively with 14 points per game, while also controlling the boards with 35 offensive and 27 defensive rebounds. Alongside her, Yasmine Brown has been a key scorer, averaging 10 points per game and also leading the team in assists with 4.3 per game.
Danea Mackey is leading the Hawks with 20 steals, averaging 2.9 per game.
Carson-Newman, North Georgia, Belmont Abbey, UNC Pembroke, and Francis Marion hold the top five spots in the poll, with Coker Augusta, Columbus State, Lander, and Chowan rounding out the rest of the rankings.
