Dr. Rosemary M. Thomas Honored as 2024 Wonder Woman by West Virginia Living Magazine
Chowan University has their very own extraordinary hero. Dr. Rosemary M. Thomas is honored by West Virginia Living Magazine in the annual Wonder Women 2024 edition recognizing “amazing women who are raising the bar in their communities, serving as beacons of light in their industries, and forcing change for the greater good” (WV Living Magazine).
We often think of Superheroes having powers like invisibility, telepathy, invincibility or even mind control. Dr. Thomas’s superpower is more realistic, but just as magical. Her light shines through when energizing individuals with hope, faith and positivity. One person, and then another, and yet another, under Dr. Thomas’s direction, come together and form a team of greatness. West Virginia Living Magazine specifically recognizes her as Chowan University’s first woman president, but highlights her volunteer work with the West Virginia department of the National American Legion Auxiliary where she is currently serving as Director of Girls State.
Dr. Thomas’s magic is happening at Chowan as well. Those around her are basking in her light. “Rosemary Thomas is the right person at the right time in the right place for Chowan University. She lifts every room she walks into with her infectious enthusiasm. Most importantly, she understands the challenges we face but also welcomes the opportunities we still have every day, and that sense of confidence is spreading across our campus community” (Dr. Tim Hayes).
Dr. Thomas says, “This is the right place, the right time and the right team. The team that assembles on the campus – in the classrooms, the board meetings and the lunchroom; the team that assembles in the chapel; the team that assembles at the foot of the cross. The team that cares for our students.”
