Congratulations Hawks! Chowan University’s Athletic Program received over 30,000 votes becoming best in the area honored in a contest by the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald.

“What an honor to be named the Best College Athletic Program by the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald,” said Patrick Mashuda, Associate Vice President for Athletics and Compliance. “The Roanoke-Chowan News Herald has been a longtime partner and friend of Chowan University and the athletic department. We are so proud of what our staff, our sports medicine personnel, our coaches, and our student-athletes do each day to make the Chowan University community great.” 

During a university press release on September 24, Patrick Mashuda announced that Conference Carolinas is the first NCAA Division I and II to sponsor women’s flag football; Chowan University will be one of the first colleges to include a team in their program. Also this month, Chowan received the prestigious honor of placing in the top ten promising Sports Sciences Colleges in the USA in Higher Education Review Magazine, and Best Business Programs by Research.com, all contributing to their well earned distinction of Best College Athletic Program.

“The Roanoke-Chowan News Herald has been an integral part of spreading the Chowan University campus news for decades,” said Meredith Long, Deputy Athletic Director. “We have always prided ourselves in working with the great folks there and through thick and thin, the R-C News and Chowan University have stuck through a lot of growing times and a lot of celebratory times. What an honor to be chosen as part of this year’s Best Of line up. We really do appreciate the coverage, but more importantly we appreciate the relationships that we have with this community.”
