StudentAffairs: Campus Ministry

Rev. Mari Wiles

Campus Ministry Overview

Part of Chowan's commitment to a real world, Christian education incorporates campus ministries.

Chowan University's Campus Ministry is a pastoral mission, which covenants to honor God and edify the University community while sharing the light and truth of Godís salvation by:

  • Modeling the ethics of Jesus Christ,
  • Rendering grace-filled pastoral care and crisis management,
  • Promoting justice and unity as local and global Gospel citizens,
  • Nurturing relationships among the University family, and
  • Helping others seek, meet, and follow God.

The Campus Ministry Team, led by Mari Wiles, gives students incredible opportunities to grow spiritually through worship and service alike.

  • Campus Worship calls the Chowan community together for authentic Christian fellowship that balances biblical relevance and reverence!
  • Instruments of Praise, Chowan's popular gospel choir, is a student-led ministry grounded on Bible study, prayer, and spreading God's word through song.
  • Residence Hall Bible Studies provide a small group atmosphere to equip students to become disciples of Jesus Christ and live out the Great Commission.
  • Mission Experiences give students the opportunity to share Godís love through local, national, and global service projects. Click here to see what Mission Experiences are available this year and to apply.
  • The Campus Ministry Team can help students choose from dozens of churches in the area. There is a wide variety of denominations.
  • Revival teams, a praise dance team, and service missions are also facilitated through campus ministries.

The Chowan Christian Service Association Scholarship is available for students who have a call into ministry. Click here to apply online.

Study Abroad in the Holy Land. Students learn more about Christ when they walk where He walked. Walk on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, pray at Calvary, and sing songs of praise as you walk the city streets of Jerusalem.

Haiti Mission Experience - 2011

A group of 10 students, staff, and alumni traveled to Haiti to help families rebuild their homes, provide free mobile medical clinics, and share the love of God to the orphaned Haitian children in the name of Jesus. Throughout the journey, they blogged and shared pictures of their experiences. As you read and visualize this mission you are invited to travel alongside our student-missionaries.

Moving my life to serve at Chowan University has been a grand adventure. I have lived in a lot of places but this is my first small town experience. I am enjoying exploring Northeastern NC.

"I believe it is important to have places and spaces of Grace on a University campus. It is my prayer that the pastoral leadership of the Campus Ministry team can offer safe places for individuals to know God, serve God and share God. We have Faith in our Future because we know God holds our future."

I have long respected Chowan students and am excited about growing together in God; it will be exciting!

"College students are at a crucial place, discovering their worlds and determining how they will participate in them. College is the perfect time to challenge and affirm, to expand what we think we know about the big ideas. I believe the minister in a college community is a spiritual director of sorts, pointing out the always present, rarely obvious, often surprising God."
