Drops Overtime Game to Barton

MURFREESBORO
- In a barn burner of a game, the Hawks fell in overtime
to Barton College with a final score of 94-90. Aaron
Scott hit a three pointer with :01 on the clock in
regulation to send the game into overtime but the
Bulldogs out scored Chowan 13 to 9 in overtime to take
the win.
The Hawks
took a ten point lead into half time (42-32) but saw
their ten point lead chipped away at by Barton's three
point attack to start the second period. Barton tied the
game at 48-48 at the 13:43 mark of the second half
before exchanging baskets with the Hawks over the
remainder of regulation. The entire second period of
play featured 7 ties and 5 lead changes. Scott's buzzer
beater three pointer sent the game into the overtime
period.
Jaleel
Nelson grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it in to
tie the game at 89-89 with 1:12 to play but the Bulldogs
went on to hit 3 out of 4 foul shots over the final
minute of play to take the game with a final of 94-90.
Scott poured
in 22 points off the bench and hit 4-7 from three point
land while senior guard Trayvon Lathan scored a team
high 25 points. He also had 6 steals and 4 assists in
the game. Chowan shot 52% from the floor and grabbed 31
rebounds while Barton hit 51% of their shots and had 35
rebounds. Montino Williams chipped in 9 points while
Marcus Artis had 8 points and 3 blocks.
For Barton,
who now moves to 15-5 on the year, senior Anthony
Atkinson scored a game high 34 points. Bobby Buffalo
contributed 23 points in the game.
The Hawks
will host Southern Virginia on Saturday in a 4:00pm
game.
