Drops Single Game to Montreat
February 25, 2007
MURFREESBORO
- The rain forced the Chowan coaching staff to change
today's originally scheduled double header with Montreat
to a single, nine inning game. The rain won out finally,
as officials called the game after 8 innings played.
Chowan fell with a final score of 7-1, moving them to
10-4 on the season.
Chowan got
on the board first in the bottom of the second inning
when Nate Mitchell scored with the bases loaded on a
Montreat balk. Chowan wouldn't hold that lead very long
as Montreat scored 2 runs in their ensuing at bat to
take a 2-1 lead. They added 5 more runs over their next
five at-bats and shut Chowan's offense down to take the
win 7-1.
Brandon
Hamlett picks up the loss on the mound after throwing 6
innings and giving up 1 earned run. He also struck out 4
Montreat batters. Brooks Walker and Spencer Fagan
pitched one inning each in relief.
Chowan was
held to 6 hits in the game led by Joey Ryder who was 2-2
while Matt Bullock got 2 hits in 4 at bats.
Chowan will
host Barton College on Wednesday in a single game set to
begin at 1:00pm. The Hawks fall to 10-4 after today's
loss while Montreat improves to 9-4 overall.
