Continues Home Winning Streak

MURFREESBORO
- The baseball team ran their home winning streak to
eight consecutive games after a double dip sweep of
Virginia Intermont College this afternoon. The Hawks won
the first game 10-1 and the nightcap 13-9.
The Hawks
used 16 team hits including two homeruns to help propel
them to victory in the first game. Steven Humprey (2-0)
picked up the win on the mound after throwing 6 innings,
giving up 5 hits and 1 earned run, and striking out 4
Cobra batters. Humprey settled down after giving up a
solo homerun in the first inning. Seven players had
multiple hit games including PJ Sadler who was perfect
at the plate at 3-3. Joel Ortiz was 2-4 with 4 RBI on a
second inning grand slam that put his team on top. Mike
Kellett was 2-4 with 4 RBI with a three run homerun in
the 6th inning. Justin Hollingsworth, Nate Mitchell,
Matt Bullock, and Nick Harner all had two hits in the
win.
Chowan's
bats didn't cool down in the second game as they pounded
out 12 hits as a team. Ortiz continued his hot streak
with 3 hits and 4 RBI with a three run homerun in the
2nd inning. Ryder was 3-3 at the plate with 2 RBI David
Hughes was 1-1 with 2 RBI. Steven Brown pitched for the
win and moves to 2-0 on the year after the game. He
pitched 5 innings, allowing 7 earned runs and striking
out 3 batters. Billy Coburn and Brandon Hamlett pitched
one inning each in relief of Brown.
The Hawks
now sit at 8-1 on the year after today's double dip
sweep of Virginia Intermont. The Cobras fall to 2-5.
Chowan will take off until Friday when they begin the
first of three back-to-back doubleheaders with Eastern
Mennonite at 1:00pm.
