Men's Tennis Opens 2007 with Win over Shaw

MURFREESBORO - The men's tennis team opened their 2007 season with a win over Shaw University this afternoon. The Hawks won with a final team score of 6-3. 

Chowan dropped their number one and number two seeded matches. Rich Abolonis, playing in the Hawks top position today, dropped his match to Shaw's D. Sabogal 6-1 and 6-4. Darick Gilman fell in a three set marathon to M. Cheikh 5-7, 6-3, and 10-8. 

Diego Timeteo, playing in the third seeded match, played to a tie at 2-6, 6-3, and 2-2. Enrique Villagomez beat his fourth seeded opponent 6-0 and 6-0 while Mike Fencil wrapped up 6-1 and 6-1 for his first win in the fifth seeded match. Cory Cline beat K. Walker 6-3 and 6-1 to win the sixth seeded match. 

Abolonis and Timeteo paired up to in the number two doubles to win 8-1 while Fencil and Cline beat their third seeded doubles opponents with a final match score of 8-3. Villamgomez and Gilman fell 8-5 in the top seeded doubles match. 

The Hawks move to 1-0 on the after today's win. They will travel to Greensboro on Friday for a 1:00pm match.
