Come From Behind to Beat #12 Barton

The Chowan men's basketball team came from behind to
beat #12 ranked Barton College on the road tonight. The
Hawks trailed by 15 points at one point in the second
period but went on a 14-2 run to take a 70-69 lead with
just over four minutes to play in the game. The Bulldogs
knotted the game at 74-74 at the 1:08 mark but it
wouldn't last long as Chowan's Trayvon Lathan converted
on a lay up to take a two point lead. Marcus Artis
blocked the ensuing shot from the Bulldogs to set up Joe
Brice's lay up at the other end of the court and give
Chowan the 78-74 lead and eventual win.
Tonight's
game featured six ties and six lead changes and saw the
Hawks shoot 58% from the floor. Senior Trayvon Lathan
scored a game-high 27 points on an 11 of 15 shooting
performance. The 12th ranked Bulldogs entered the game
at 5-1 overall and are coming off a CVAC Championship
season that saw them advance to the Elite Eight of the
NCAA Tournament.
Joining
Lathan in double-figures tonight was Brice who netted 16
points. Deon Tynes had 8 points while Artis grabbed 8
rebounds. The Hawks held the Bulldogs to 40% shooting
from the floor in the game. Before tonight's match up
Barton was hitting shots at a 54% rate and had three
players averaging double-figure scoring.
Chowan
improves to 3-4 on the year while Barton moves to 5-2.
The Hawks will take off for the school's exam period and
hit the court again on December 14th when they host UNC-Pembroke
at 7:30pm.
