Mount
Olive Uses Second Half Play to Beat Hawks
December 29, 2006
PEMBROKE, NC
- The men's basketball team fell in the opening round of
the UNC-Pembroke Classic to familiar foe Mount Olive
College with a final score of 94-73. Chowan took a
narrow 37-34 lead into halftime but a barrage of three
pointers from the Trojans in the second half helped to
lift them to victory over the Hawks. The two teams faced
off once this season with the Trojans barely edging the
visiting Hawks 78-70 at the 41st Pickle Classic.
After
trailing the Hawks at the half, Mount Olive went on a
12-2 run over the first minutes of the second period to
jump on top of Chowan. The Trojans got up on the Hawks
by as many as 27 points in the second half, partly due
to MOC's three point shooting. They hit 7-14 in the
second half, 5 of which came from Elton Coffield off the
bench.
Three Hawks
scored in double figures with Trayon Lathan and Marcus
Artis getting 12 points each in the loss. The duo also
combined for 15 rebounds while sophomore Chris Kenon
came off the bench to chip in 10 points.
Tonight's
loss drops Chowan to 4-7 on the year while the Trojans
improve to 6-2 overall. Chowan will play host team UNC-Pembroke
tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm.
