Uses Second Half Play to Beat Hawks

- The women's basketball team fell to 6-5 after
suffering a 81-70 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne College tonight.
The Bears used 29 points from the foul line and 49 total
rebounds to help them come from behind to beat the home
standing Hawks.
After taking
a 37-32 lead into the half, the Hawks held off the
offensive attack from Lenoir-Rhyne until the 9:47 mark
of the second period when with the game knotted at 55-55
LRC's Ashlei Helton drilled a three pointer from the top
of the arch to give her team a three point lead. The
Bears kept the Hawks from striking distance as the
minutes wound down on the clock to take a 81-70 win over
Chowan.
The Hawks
shot 41% from the floor and hit 8of 24 from beyond the
three point arch. LRC scored 29 points from the foul
line to help propel them to the win. The Bear hit 24 of
60 from the floor and grabbed 49 rebounds to the Hawks'
32 rebounds. Joi Hazel led all scorers in the game with
15 points. She also had 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Rachel
Wood came off the bench to score 13 points while Alicia
McMorris had 10 points and 6 assists. For Lenior-Rhyne,
who moved to 5-2 on the year after tonight's win, was
paced by Jami Safrit who had 14 points and 6 rebounds.
Amber Holt contributed 13 points the game.
Chowan will
now break for Christmas but will hit the hard court on
January 6th when they travel to West Virginia Tech for a
2:00pm tip off. They will make the 2007 home season
debut on January 18th when they host NC Wesleyan at
7:00pm.
