2006
MURFREESBORO
- Six players scored in double-figures as the Hawks
rolled to a 90-51 victory over Peace College this
afternoon. Nine different Chowan players scored in the
game as they shot 50% from the floor. Today's 90 points
is the team's highest point total to this point this
season.
Chowan took
a decisive 40-21 lead into the half and thanks to a 19
of 40 shooting performance from the floor in the second
half they out scored the Pacers 45-30 to take the 90-51
win. The Hawks committed just 15 turnovers in the game
and forced 28 Peace turnovers which amounted to 38
points for the Hawks. Paced by Katie Norris with 12
rebounds of her own, the Hawks won the battle of the
boards 42 to 26.
"It was a
good win coming off the Thursday night thriller over UNC-Pembroke,"
stated Head Coach Patrick Mashuda. "We were able to play
with a high level of intensity, control the back board
and limit our turnovers. Any time we can put up those
numbers we put ourselves in a position to be
successful."
Norris
notched her first-ever double-double as she scored 15
points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Joining her in
double-figures was Joi Hazel who was 7-12 from the floor
for 14 points and 4 assists. AJ O'Bannion and Tyshaunna
Winston each chipped in 13 points while Tameka
Christopher had 12 points in the win.
Chowan will
play their final game of 2006 on Monday when they host
Lenior-Rhyne College at 4:00pm. They will hit the hard
court again on January 6th.
