Surge Lifts Braves over Hawks at Home

MURFREESBORO
- UNC-Pembroke passed the Hawks at home 64-61 after
trailing by 12 points in the second half. The Braves got
hot from the three point line, hitting three straight
over the final minutes of the game to take the win from
Chowan.
The Hawks
hit a season-high 8 three pointers in the game and out
rebounded UNC-Pembroke 42-40. Chowan took a 36-30 lead
into halftime and got ahead of the Braves by as many as
12 points with over 9:00 to play in the game. Jarrell
Hunter and John Walters hit five out of their combined
seven made three pointers over the final nine minutes of
the game to pull the Braves within striking distance of
the home standing Hawks. With the game knotted at 61
each, Hunter hit a three pointer with :51 to play in the
second period to take a 64-61 lead over Chowan. Chowan
had one final possession to try to tie the game with :13
to play in the game but fell just short of forcing an
overtime period.
The Hawks
fall to 3-5 on the year while UNC-Pembroke moves to 1-7
overall. For Chowan three players scored in double
figures led by Joe Brice who netted 14 points. Deon
Tynes had a double-double with 12 boards and 12 points
while Travyon Lathan added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3
assists. For UNC-P Jonathan Hart and Hunter had 19 and
17 points respectively.
Chowan will
host Belmont-Abbey College on Saturday at 3:00pm. Listen
