Basketball Schedules Released
October 11, 2006
MURFREESBORO
– The wait is over for the 2006-07-basketball season as
both the men’s and women’s season schedules were
released this morning.
Just days before their first official practice of the
season, both the men’s and women’s programs has been
busy readying for the upcoming year with individual
workouts and conditioning.
The men’s basketball team opens their season on the road
at the Pickle Classic hosted by Mount Olive College.
They open the tournament with Coker College at 6:00pm.
Their first home game is slated for November 25th
against Millersville University followed by another home
game against Virginia State University on the 28th.
Fifth year Head Coach Jim Tribbett has added several new
opponents to the schedule with Frances Marion
University, the University of Charleston (WV), Concord
College (WV), and Belmont Abbey. The schedule also
boasts two NCAA DI basketball games as the Hawks will
travel to High Point University on November 21st and
then to East Carolina University on January 6th.
The men’s schedule features 12 home games, three more
than last year’s schedule. Along with the Pickle
Classic, the team will play in the UNC-Pembroke Classic
at the end of December.
Third year Head Coach Patrick Mashuda and the women’s
basketball team will open their season at home on
November 15th as Barton College comes to the Helms
Center for a 7:00pm tip off. The team will travel to
their only regular season scheduled tournament at Peace
College following their home match up with Barton. They
will face off against Chatham College (PA) in the
opening round at 8:00pm.
The team will open up in January at West Virginia Tech
on the 6th and return to the Helms Center on January
18th as familiar foe North Carolina Wesleyan comes to
town for a 7:00pm game.
The women’s schedule boasts 10 home games, four of which
will come in the month of December. Much different than
seasons past, this year’s schedule will feature 8 new
opponents to include West Virginia Tech, Queens
University (NC), UNC-Pembroke, Campbellsville University
(KY), Lindsey Wilson College (KY), Virginia Union, St.
Andrew’s College, and Claflin University.
All in all both the men’s and women’s schedules for the
upcoming season will feature some exciting basketball.
The men’s team will look to repeat as NCCAA Region
Champions while the women have their sights set to post
their seventh consecutive winning season.
