MURFREESBORO – Trayvon Lathan has added yet another
milestone to an already touted basketball career at
Chowan University. The senior guard became the
program’s all-time leading scorer after netting 22
points on the road at Concord University (WV) last
night. He needed four points heading into the game to
break Herman Moore’s mark of 1,792 points set over his
four seasons of play from 1994-1997.
Lathan became a member of the 1000-point club faster
than any player in school history after scoring a
remarkable 539 points in his first season and 466 points
in his sophomore season. The honors have flowed steadily
since his arrival on campus to include being named the
USA South’s Rookie of the Year and a member of the
D3Hoops South Region Team, all in his rookie season. He
was named the USA South Rookie of the Week a total of
eight times in his first year, including a streak of
seven consecutive weeks with this honor.
Since that explosive first season he has gone on to be
named to the NCCAA South Region (First Team) twice,
earned NCCAA All American honors twice, and NCCAA South
Region Player of the Year last season. Lathan helped his
junior squad to a new program record of 19 wins, a NCCAA
South Region Tournament title, and a 3rd place finish at
the NCCAA Nationals.
The Chesapeake, Virginia native and Deep Creek High
School graduate has led the team in scoring for four
consecutive seasons and is putting up 17.0 points per
game to lead the team this season.
When Lathan hangs up the shoes for the last time this
year, he will leave Chowan as the most decorated men’s
basketball player in program history (four-year).
