Lathan
Meets Milestone but Hawks Fall at Concord
January 25, 2007
ATHENS, WV -
Senior Trayvon Lathan poured in 22 points and grabbed 13
rebounds in tonight's game at Concord University but his
efforts couldn't quite lead the Hawks to a victory as
they fell with a final score of 77-66. Lathan, who
needed just four points to become the program's all-time
leading scorer, became a member of the 1000 point club
after just two seasons with the team, the fastest player
to do so in four-year school history.
Chowan
trailed the Mountain Lions 40-33 at halftime but cut a
one-time thirteen point Concord lead to just four points
after making a 10-0 run in the final three minutes of
the first half. With the score 35-33 in favor of
Concord, the Mountian Lions hit back-to-back buckets
over the final minute of the first half, including a
buzzer beating three pointer, to stretch their lead to
seven points after twenty minutes of play.
Chowan
battled in the second period, cutting Concord's lead to
61-60 with just over five minutes to play in the game
but Mountain Lions held off the Hawks comeback attempt
and went on to win 70-66.
The Hawks
fall to 7-11 on the year after tonight's loss. They shot
46% from the floor in the game and grabbed 37 rebounds.
Chris Kenon tallied 7 points in the game. Concord moves
to 7-9 after tonight's game.
Chowan will
travel to the Apprentice School on January 31st for
their next match up. Tip off is slated for 7:30pm in
Newport News. The game will be broadcast live via
HawkCast. Log onto the athletics main page to listen to
