Fall Short to Vikings

ELIZABETH
CITY, NC - The men's basketball team fell just short at
Elizabeth City State this evening after losing to the
Vikings 66-56 on the road. The loss moves the Hawks to
7-10 on the year while the Vikings even their record at
8-8.
Chowan got
down in the first half by as many as 14 points but
battled to stay close to the Vikings. They pulled within
11 points at half time, trailing 38-27 after twenty
minutes of play. At the 13:54 mark of the second period
the Hawks surged offensively and went on a 10-0 run over
the next four minutes of play to cut the Viking
lead to 3 points. ECSU hit some key shots over the final
minutes of the game to keep the visiting Hawks at bay
and take the eventual 66-56 win.
For Chowan
senior Trayvon Lathan and freshman Jaleel Nelson netted
17 points each. Nelson hit three shots from beyond the
three point arc and was 6-12 from the floor.
Marcus Artis chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds in the
loss. The Hawks shot 38% from the floor and were out
rebounded 43 to 30 in the game.
The Hawks
will hit the hard court again on Thursday when they
travel to Concord College in West Virginia for a 7:30pm
game.
