Three Hawks Named to 2011 Pre-Season All-CIAA Volleyball Team
HAMPTON, VA – The two-time defending CIAA Volleyball champion Chowan Hawks have placed three student-athletes on the Pre-Season All-CIAA Team. Karina Monroe, Victoria Lewis, and Megan Sawyer each made this year's list.
Karina Monroe is the reigning CIAA Player of the Year. She was named to the All-CIAA First Team and CIAA All-Tournament team a year ago. Monroe led the CIAA in hitting percentage in 2010 (.311). She also had a team-high in blocks with 109. Monroe ranked eighth in the CIAA in kills, with 2.69 per set.
In 2010, Victoria Lewis led the Hawks in kills (406) and service aces (82). Her 0.76 service ace percentage was second-best in the CIAA, while her 3.29 kills per set ranked her third. Lewis was named to the 2010 All-CIAA First Team and All-Tournament Team.
Megan Sawyer is coming off an outstanding freshman campaign in which she ranked in the top three for the Hawks in a pair of categories. Her 40 assists and 33 blocks were each third best on the team in 2010. She also had 91 kills, 88 digs, and 28 service aces a year ago.
Chowan opens up the 2011 season with the fourth annual Janet Collins Tournament on September 2nd, when they host Barton College.
