CU Student-Athletes Lend Helping Hand
7/2/2012
EAST ST. LOUIS, IL- Three of Chowan University's student-athletes are lending a helping hand this week in East St. Louis. Softball player Jordan Burland along with football players Calvin Preston and Austin Tallant are serving as camp counselors on this year's mission trip through Chowan University.
Burland comments, “It's a great opportunity to show God's love through actions rather than words.”
Chowan University is partnering with the Christian Activity Center to provide counselors at Camp Penuel in Ironton, Missouri. Burland, Preston, and Tallant are three of seventeen students that are sacrificing a week this summer to serve as role models and care givers to the children attending the camp.
Camp Penuel is a Christian camping ministry that has focused on serving America's underprivileged children since 1973. The camp attendees range from ages six to eleven, and they will spend the week interacting and learning from the group of students from Chowan.
