CU's Austin Tallant Selected as Nominee for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team
NORTHBROOK, ILL. - The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Allstate Insurance Company announced 117 nominees today for the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. As one of college football's most prestigious off-the-field honors, the award recognizes a select group of college football players committed to making a difference in their communities.
Chowan University's Austin Tallant was selected as a nominee for the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Tallant, a rising junior has been active in several aspects of community service both on campus, and off campus. In 2011, Tallant worked to add the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to Chowan University's campus, and oversaw membership, meetings and activities of FCA throughout the academic year.
Tallant's most recent service endeavor took place at on a Chowan mission trip at Camp Penuel in Ironton, Missouri, where he served as a camp counselor, care giver, and role model to children in attendance at the camp.
This past spring, Tallant was selected as one of two recipients for the Dr. M. Christopher White Presidential Athletics Excellence Award, which is given annually to one male and one female student-athlete that show commitment to community service, contribute to the success of their team, and excel in the classroom.
Nominees for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team are submitted by sports information directors. Voting will take place later this fall to determine the final roster of 22 for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, with the final roster being released in September.
