Chowan Welcomes Jarrett Banks as our New Assistant VP for Development, Director of Church Relations

Chowan University is honored to announce the hiring of Dr. Jarrett G. Banks as the new Assistant Vice President for Development and Director of Church Relations. Having served churches in North Carolina for more than 15 years, Dr. Banks has most recently served as the Senior Pastor of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Dr. Jarrett Banks has served as the Minister with Youth at First Baptist Church in Marshville, NC and at Belhaven Baptist Church in Belhaven, NC. After pastor work in Kentucky and Georgia, Banks returned to his native North Carolina, being born in Elizabeth City, as Pastor to the Fellowship Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and later the First Baptist Church in Farmville, where he served for nearly 10 years before his service in Louisiana.

Academically, Banks earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from the M. Christopher White School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University, the Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Bachelor of Science degree from Wingate University. He also completed the North Carolina Young Leaders’ Program with the Center for Congregational Health in Winston-Salem.

In his new position for Chowan University, Dr. Banks will assist the Vice President for Development in the management of the day to day operations of the Development Office and help ensure Chowan’s success through fundraising, public relations and marketing.

Banks will be assuming major responsibilities in planning all activities that relate to church and denominational relations including the leadership role on the Ministerial Board of Associates and the Chowan Christian Service Association. Banks will be available to speak in churches throughout NC and VA as possible, and will represent Chowan University at state and national conventions and meetings. Banks will also spearhead the successful SeniorFest series, going into its fifth annual event this year.

The Chowan University community would also like to warmly welcome Dr. Banks’s wife Lori, son Carson and daughter Sara Beth. The Banks family will arrive at Chowan in mid-August, beginning work on August 19th. Chowan University is proud to announce Dr. Jarrett Banks as the new Assistant Vice President for Development and Director of Church Relations, and welcomes the Banks family to our community.
