Jeffery P. Whelan Jeffrey P. Whelan
Assistant Professor of Visual Art

By staying active through freelance work and maintaining a studio / gallery presence, we accomplish a great deal."

Education:
Jeff Whelan received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the University of Southern Maine. He received his Masters degree in Communication from Regent University's School of Radio, Film and Television, where he specialized in Animation and Screen Writing. He did additional graduate study with The Portland School of Art at Pratt Institute. He will be receiving his Masters of Fine Arts in Illustration, specializing in Illustration and 3-D Animation, from East Carolina University's School of Art and Design in the fall of 2007. Jeff Whelan came to work at Chowan University in 2000.

Wayne Newton Wayne C. Newton
Assistant Professor of Visual Art

"I enjoy helping students find their creative focus while also teaching them how to engage clients and pursue a successful career in graphic design. With the smaller class sizes I can tailor the content of a course to meet the specific needs of each student. I love teaching. Seeing a student all of a sudden “Get It” is very fulfilling that I was able to inspire a student to succeed."
