Psychology Department Receives Grant


Psychology Department Receives Grant

The Department of Psychology at Chowan University was awarded a grant from the Federal Department of Education totaling $218,832 to prevent high risk drinking among underage college students.

The Department of Psychology was awarded this competitive grant as one of only 20 higher education institutions nationwide. Chowan University received this Federal allowance among the likes of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the College of William and Mary, and the Universities of Oklahoma and Alabama.

This significant grant includes components that:

  • Strengthen community and campus awareness and advocacy.
  • Educate and assess students.
  • Provide counseling services.
  • Create student jobs.
  • Market social change.
  • Promote peer counseling.
  • Train Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Evaluate internal and external research data.

Our Psychology faculty continue to pioneer practical curriculum geared toward student success and sustaining positive change!
