Academics: School of Arts & Sciences

Students hone their talents and gain performance experience in:

• The Meherrin Chamber Orchestra
• The Chowan Jazz Band
• Chowan Winds
• The Chowan Chorus
• Chowan Singers
• Cantare

Chowan Chorus: presents one concert each semester, including a major work with orchestra in the annual Masterworks concert. Recent performances include Handel’s Messiah, Rutter’s Requiem, and Haydn’s The Creation. Membership is open to students and community residents.

Chowan Singers: the premier choral ensemble of the University. Chowan Singers presents concerts on campus and tours throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Membership is by audition only.

Cantare: a small vocal ensemble auditioned from members of Chowan Singers. Cantare sings madrigals, vocal jazz, and Christian contemporary music.

Chowan Winds: the University’s symphonic band. Chowan Winds presents concerts on campus throughout the year. Membership is by audition only.

Jazz Band: performs on campus and represents the University in off-campus concerts as well.

Meherrin Chamber Orchestra: performs concerts on campus throughout the year and participates in the annual Masterworks concert. Membership is open to students and community residents.
