Education:
Gregory Parker received his Bachelor of Music Education in Voice and his Performer's Certificate in Voice from Samford University. He received his Master of Music in Music Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received his Doctor of Music in Voice Performance from University of Missouri-Kansas City. Gregory Parker came to work at Chowan University in 2004.

James M. Guthrie Assistant Professor of Music

"As a composer, I find the Chowan community to be open to the free expression of new musical ideas. Our New Music Day concert series is helpful in getting new music performed and appreciated. I also enjoy giving organ concerts at Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, demonstrating historical period instruments for various civic groups around the area, and directing the Meherrin Chamber Orchestra. As a resident of Murfreesboro, I enjoy bicycling around the campus, the scenic areas around Lake Vann, and the Historic District of Murfreesboro."

Education:
James M. Guthrie received his Bachelor of Music, his Masters of Music and his Doctorate of Music from Louisiana State University. James M. Guthrie came to work at Chowan in 2005.

Charles J. Hulin IV Assistant Professor of Music

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of a Christian university like Chowan in my native North Carolina. I’ve found it to be a happy, healthy, and inspiring community of earnest students and caring faculty.”

Education:
Charles Hulin received his Bachelor of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in piano performance from The Peabody Conservatory of Music, and his Master of Music degree in piano performance from The Juilliard School of Music. Charles Hulin came to work for Chowan in 2007.

Michael Butrico Director of Bands

“Since moving into the area from Orlando, FL, I have found the community of Chowan University to be very welcoming and eager to assist in many ways. I am extremely excited to be joining an outstanding faculty group in the Department of Music, and look forward to helping promote Chowan University as a cultural hub for the area."

Education:
Michael Butrico received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from University of Central Florida. He earned a Masters of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. Michael Butrico came to work for Chowan in 2007.

Paula B. Pressnell Staff Accompanist Artist in Residence

"I enjoy teaching piano lessons at Chowan University. This fall begins a new venture into teaching class piano, thanks to our brand new piano lab. Since I am originally from neighboring Gates County, it's a real joy to remain in this area and be able to do what I love: teaching, performing and accompanying."
