Music Scholarship Auditions

Affordable? You bet. Combine a music scholarship with other Chowan University awards and a degree from a private, Christian university is more affordable than you think.

The awarding of scholarships is selective and competitive. When you audition, be prepared:

  1. Auditions are held in the Recital Hall with no sound amplification. In cases where travel distance will prohibit a visit to the campus un-edited videotape will be acceptable. A student may audition in more than one performance medium.
  2. Singers should prepare two selections in different styles. Music chosen for audition should be of an acceptable level of difficulty
  3. Instrumentalists should prepare one piece of appropriate solo literature and should be prepared to play major and minor scales.
  4. Students auditioning in piano and/or organ should be prepared to play two selections representing different style periods and should be prepared to play selected major and minor scales, hands together a minimum of two octaves.
  5. All prospective students will sight sing examples of melodic material in the entrance audition.

To schedule a time for an entrance audition, please contact the Music Department at music@chowan.edu or (252) 398-6236. The entrance audition allows the music faculty to evaluate your potential for success in our program and to determine if you are eligible to receive a music scholarship.

Be sure to apply for admission before you schedule your audition.

2010 Audition Dates
- February 27th
- March 27th
- April 24th

Chowan University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Also, the University is approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI) to award teacher education degrees. The degree programs stress training in basic musical disciplines and proficiency in applied and theoretical areas.
