Rooted amongst rivers and streams, lakes and sounds, wetlands and river basins, freshwater and saltwater habitats, Chowan is the ideal setting to immerse yourself in environmental study. On board Chowan's 18-foot boat equipped with the latest electronics including a GPS unit and a depth finder, students can study pristine natural laboratories. North Carolina's famous Outer Banks shoal system and its Great Dismal Swamp, and Virginia's Norfolk Botanical Gardens and its Chesapeake Bay area, are all an easy drive away.

To find something a little closer to home to study on, Chowan University recently used $25,000 to renovate our Biology Department Greenhouse!
