Background & Education:
Professor Bert Wyatt is also the advisor to the Chowan Criminal Justice Department's Lambda Alpha Epsilon National Criminal Justice Society. He is also the faculty representative from the Criminal Justice Department for the newly formed Chowan Faculty/Staff Association. Professor Wyatt was selected for a second term as a board member with the Choanoke Area Development Association (CADA). He is also the advisor and coordinator to the Chowan University Pre-Law Program. He is a former police officer and was a private investigator for 10 years. Bert Wyatt has a B.A. from Virginia State University and a Masters degree from Washington State University. He did additional graduate study at Florida State University and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He also attended the State of Washington Police Academy. Bert Wyatt came to work at Chowan University in 2001.

Frederick Mercilliott

The criminal justice faculty, individually, has over 25 years of criminal justice experiences."

Background & Education:
Professor Frederick Mercilliott has recently republished a book entitled "Life and Times of a NYC Firefighter/Fire Investigator." Professor Mercilliott is the advisor to Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society. He has varied experiences in both Criminal Justice and Fire Sciences. He has been a Dean at the University of New Haven, where he developed the School of Public Safety. He has also started a Public Safety Schools in Nevada. He came to Chowan University where he established the Criminal Justice program. He is a former investigator and has published extensively. Fred Mercilliott has a B.S. in Public Safety and a Masters of Public Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He has a Masters degree in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven and a Masters degree in Criminal Justice Theory from City University of New York, where he also received his Ph.D. in Criminology. Fred Mercilliott did his Post Doctorate Study with the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. He attended the New York City Fire Academy for Firefighting and Arson and Bomb Investigation, as well as the New York City Police Academy for High Rise Safety Director courses and its Detective School for Investigators, Crime Prevention and Homicide Investigators courses. Fred Mercilliott took Bomb Investigators courses with the FBI and Terrorism and Personnel Protection courses with the U.S. Naval Reserves Intelligence School. He is endorsed by the American Society for Industrial Security as a Certified Protection Professional and serves as an expert witness in the causes and origins of fires for federal and state courts. Frederick Mercilliott came to work with Chowan in 1997.
