Academics: Honors College

The Honors College at Chowan University is designed to offer challenging opportunities for intellectual growth to well-prepared and highly motivated students.

The college has both curricular and extracurricular components.

Requirements and Benefits The Honors College Committee will normally consider for acceptance:

Freshman:

  • At least a 3.25 high school grade point average
  • 1100 or higher SAT score

Transfer students and Chowan rising sophomores:

  • At least a 3.50 GPA
  • B in English composition

Students in the Honors College will be able to relate knowledge of a subject to others, to think independently, and to write and speak clearly.

Honors classes are generally smaller than usual classes and provide opportunities for in- depth class discussion and innovative teaching.

Participation in the Honors College gives students the opportunities to publish original work and attend special lectures and cultural events.

Students who successfully complete the Honors College graduate with a special designation on their diplomas and transcripts. This looks great on a resume and will be helpful when students enter the job market.
