Marvin Daugherty Marvin Daugherty has been delivering accurate and precise weather forecasts to Eastern Carolina for twenty five years. As the Chief Meteorologist for WITN-TV's First Alert Weather Team, Daugherty has proved himself both trustworthy and dependable, both qualities that Chowan still fosters in their graduates today.

"There is no doubt that without Chowan I would not have been able to achieve many of my dreams," said Daugherty, "Chowan was exactly what I needed, and I thank God it was there when I was a young man."

While growing up on a farm near Kinston, Daugherty finished high school in nearby Jones County. After graduation, Daugherty came to Chowan where he obtained an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration.

"My years at Chowan were great. I became involved with the Men's Council (a student disciplinary committee) and a number of other activities around campus," explained Daugherty. "Those activities gave me purpose and allowed me to structure my life so I could excel not only with academics but with my fellow students as well."

Soon after returning to Eastern North Carolina from many years of various academic pursuits, Daugherty decided he wanted a career in weather and auditioned for WITN. Since then, Daugherty has witnessed and reported on almost every major weather event in Eastern Carolina for the past two decades, making him practically a household name across the region.

"I applied and received the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval, an honor that only some 1,600 or so people have achieved since its inception in 1959," Daugherty proudly proclaims.

Exemplifying the noble qualities that Chowan University still cherishes today, Marvin Daugherty has proved himself to be reliable and well-respected. Chowan University is honored to have such a prestigious alumni.
